James graduated from Rutgers University – New Brunswick in 2016 with honors. He then continued his education at Rutgers Law School in Newark. While attending law school, James spent time employed by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force unit, where he learned invaluable knowledge on how cases are built by the State. James then moved to the trial teams unit where he began researching, writing, and arguing motions.
Upon graduating law school, James served as the law clerk to the Honorable Benjamin S. Bucca Jr., J.S.C. in the Middlesex County Criminal Division.
After completing his clerkship, he joined the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office as an Assistant Prosecutor where he was assigned to the Trial Teams Section. His case-load would range from simple drug possession all the way to murder. The highlight of James’ tenure at the MCPO was the successful retrial of State v. Robert McGranahan. James was a part of the team that proved McGranahan met and then killed a stranger off of a dating website.
James joined The Law Offices of Jonathan F. Marshall in 2023 and is now working on the criminal defense side of the courtroom, representing clients in court throughout New Jersey on a daily basis.
