The municipal court in Burlington is the busiest in the county as it handles all charges issued in both the Township and City. The City of Burlington has a population of less than 10,000 and measures under 4.0 square miles yet over 2,000 criminal complaints were issued there last year. Burlington Township also has a significant number of violations although much more in line with what you would expect in a municipality with 22,594 residents and covering 13.98 square miles. If you were arrested for DWI, possession of marijuana, simple assault or even an indictable crime like burglary or distribution of CDS, you certainly are not alone based on these statistics. The Police Departments in Burlington are obviously very active and so should you when it comes to hiring the right attorney to handle your criminal offense. Arrested in Burlington, New Jersey
Although Burlington City is one of the smallest municipalities in the county, it reported the highest number of criminal complaints last year. The Township reported over 1,500 criminal filings as well. There is no doubt that a major factor in these statistics is the proximity of Burlington to major highways. The New Jersey Turnpike (a.k.a. Interstate 95), Interstate 295, and U.S. 130, all pass through the municipalities. This also results in not only two local police departments patrolling Burlington but also a third enforcement agency, the NJ State Police. Police, prosecutors and judges are mindful of the criminal statistics in these towns and are aggressive in making sure that the situation improves. Unfortunately, this can lead to an exaggerated effort to prosecute when it is not warranted. A savvy lawyer can be instrumental in shifting the balance.
