As previously stated, 2C:21-2.1 outlines a separate pedigree of forgery relating to counterfeit government documents such as a Fake Driver’s License or other item used for identification (i.e. “ID”). “Forgery involving false government documents” is a fancy way of saying “making or presenting fake IDs.” It is a second-degree crime, potentially punishable by a fine of up to $150,000 and a prison sentence of 10 years.
