All juvenile cases in Morris County are heard at the Family Part of the Morris County Superior Court within the Chancery Division. The Morris County Superior Court handles juvenile charges such as shoplifting, robbery, burglary, theft, marijuana possession, assault, trespass, drug possession, criminal mischief, harassment, underage possession or consumption of alcohol, and false identification. Morris County Detention Center
All juveniles sentenced to incarceration in Morris County are detained at the Morris County Juvenile Detention Facility which is located at 460 West Hanover Ave in Morris Township, NJ. The detention center was built in July 9, 1962 and it is run by the Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders which is part of the Human Services Department. The facility can hold up to 42 delinquents at any one time and the detention center has recreational, educational, social and religious programs for all the juvenile residents. The director of the Morris County Detention Center is Edward C. Facas and the Deputy Director is Thomas P. Pollio. The detention center employs a full staff which includes 23 detention officers, and numerous nurses, social workers, and teachers. The Juvenile Detention Center processes more than 275 juveniles every year, and approximately 85% are males and 15% are females and the average length of incarceration is about 25 days.
