Oceanport is a small Borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey with a population of a little over five thousand residents. Oceanport was formed as a borough by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 6, 1920, from portions of Eatontown Township (now Eatontown). Oceanport can be separated into two sections. One is called Oceanport and the other Port-au-peck (a main road through the town is Port-au-peck Avenue). Although both range from middle class to upper-middle class, Port-au-peck is more heavily residential and has many more high end homes. Moreover, Oceanport is also very close to the communities of Little Silver, Monmouth Beach, and Rumson. These three and Port-au-peck form a junction in the middle of the river. Also, Monmouth Park Racetrack, the former Fort Monmouth, and Eatontown all border Oceanport and contribute to the high to the number of traffic related arrests such as charges for DWI and Refusal to Submit to Breath Test. The New Jersey Transit train line which runs in front of Monmouth Park is the common separator to divide the two sections.
